What to Know About American Football (part 1)

American football is one of the most popular team sport in the U.S. This Sport is quite closely related to Canadian one but we can see some clearly differences in the playing rules and other factors as well.

There are 3 main kinds in the U.S: high school football, college football, and professional football (NFL). All of them just have some different points in the rule.

Football field

The American football field contains 100 yards long, which is divided into 20 sections each of 5 yards. Not only that, it is also marked by 19 long white lines across the width. And there are four rows of short lines between the long ones. In which, 4 lines are 1 yard apart. They call the final section at each end of the yard is the end-zone. It has a length of 10 yards. Normally, they are separated by a long white line called the goal line and diagonal in red.

There is a line at the end of The end-zone end. Next to it are goal posts. The pole is planted at the center of the course, 10 feet high, on the north with an 18-foot-6-inch-long crossbar, and the ends of the horizontal bars are two 30-foot-long vertical bars.

In brief, football’s entire field contains 120 yards long and horizontal is 53 1/3 yards. The numbers of 10 – 20 – 30 – 40 – 50 are marked every 10 yards from the goal line to the middle of the field and then 50 – 40 – 30 – 20 – 10 in the opposite direction.

Ball

American Football balls are made of leather, are oval in shape and weigh between 400 and 480g.

Helmet

Helmets include inflatable cushions to protect the head, masks to protect the face, 2 earmasks on each side to protect ears.

Team and position

An American football team normally has 53 players. They will be divided into 3 teams: offensive team, defense team and special team. Specific information about each team and game rules will be revealed in part 2.
