1. Remember the Titans – Extraordinary Football Team (2000)

The film recreates true events that happened in the US city of Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 regarding the Titans – the rugby team that won the Virginia state championship after 13 unbeaten matches. With more than $ 115 million in ticket revenue, “Remember the Titans” is the best-selling sports movie in 2000.

Herman Boone was hired by T. Williams High School to become Titans’ college football coach. The African coach returned to the Titans at a time when Virginia was submerged in color-induced riots to protest white racial segregation for white people and a school for people of color. The decision to hire a color coach is a policy of the State Department of Education, to appease the outrage in the black community. However, it faced the fierce opposition of white people, including the players in the team. Recovering Bill Yoast as assistant coach can be considered as one of Herman’s early successes. Images of two coaches, one white and one colored, standing side by side in rehearsals have partly healed the split in the team.

The rule heavy exercises, lectures about the equal rights of peoples together with the exchanges between members have gradually removed the hostile barrier. After the training, the whole team became a unified block. Friendship begins to flourish among other players of skin color. They stand side by side, becoming a united team with a strong desire to win.
