20-year-old rugby player suddenly died on the Australian grass field

The accident

The Central Highlands Football League home page has reported that Dunnstown – an American football player died suddenly at Learmonth, in northern Ballarat (Australia). Stakeholders revealed the player was only 20 years old. He came on as a substitute in the match before his collapsing.

Immediately after the player was in distress, the medical team on the field conducted emergency first aid. A helicopter was sent to bring this 20-year-old talent to an emergency hospital. Even so, he did not get over.

Cause detection

Currently, police in Australia are investigating to clarify the death of the player. A spokesman for Victoria Police Department said: “We are investigating to clarify the death of the 20-year-old player at Learmonth. However, according to initial verification, there is nothing unusual here.

According to the Ballarat Courier, the 20-year-old is perfectly fit before the game. Most likely death comes from stroke as in many cases in other sports.In the past, American football sport has never recorded a case of sudden death when playing on the field.

Another case

In 2017, there was also a high school student died of a serious head injury while playing American football. Despite wearing a safety-tested helmet, Carlos Sanchez, 16, suddenly collapsed in a match at Moon Valley High School on October 20. Immediately he was taken to the hospital but died only two days later.

After the collision, Sanchez fell to the ground and this was said to be the original cause of the boy’s death.

When playing American football, athletes suffer a lot of risks such as heart attack, head injury, skull, bone and muscle pain. A strong impact on the head can cause brain bleeding, leading to rapid coma or even death.
